Google Review Optimization: More Than Stars

Reviews are not just social proof — they are text that Google reads. Here is how to turn them into rankings.

Most owners treat reviews as reputation: more stars, better. That is true, but it is only half the picture.

To Google, every review is a piece of text attached to your business. When a customer writes "fast tyre change in Lyulin", you have just earned a relevance signal for exactly that search — for free.

Ask at the right moment

People leave a review when the emotion is fresh. The ask has to land hours, not weeks, after the service.

  • Send a short message with a direct link to the review form.
  • Don't ask for "five stars" — ask for an honest opinion that mentions the service.
  • Make it part of the process, not the exception.

Reply to every review

The reply is your one place to add keywords in natural language.

  • Thank them and restate the service and the neighbourhood: "Glad the tyre change in Lyulin was quick."
  • Reply to the negative ones too — calm and specific. Google and future customers are reading.
  • Don't paste the same reply every time. Variation reads as more genuine.

Turn reviews into content

Your best reviews should not live only in the profile.

  • Quote them on service and neighbourhood pages.
  • Use customers' own phrasing as headings and FAQ questions.
  • Track which services get mentioned most — that is free market feedback.

If that sounds like a lot of manual work, that is exactly what we handle in our local SEO in Sofia service.
